Hello!

I’d love to share a bit about my teaching philosophy.

I teach from a functional point-of-view focusing on how the pose feels rather than how it looks. I believe that due to the skeletal variation from person to person, there’s no point in looking the same in any posture. Sure, I will demonstrate the poses so we have a starting point—then the pose is refined according how it feels in your body and what parts we are trying to target. To the best of my knowledge, functional yoga is the most intelligent, compassionate, and accessible way to practice; and applies to all styles I teach.

In my vinyasa classes, I incorporate Sanskrit with my best efforts in pronunciation as an act of respect for where this practice originated (India and South Asia). When I bring my harmonium for chanting (kirtan) and mantra practice, I invite you to sing, exactly as you are! My sequences are functional, somewhat challenging, and always threaded through with practical application of yoga philosophy.

During my Yin classes, I will typically focus on one of four categories: Anatomy, Neuroscience, Yoga Philosophy, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). I prepare each class plan with evidence-based research, inspiring stories, mindful sequencing—so you can depart feeling more ease in your body. A clear theme is a keystone of my teaching philosophy, of which I hope each student can distill their own little gem of understanding and leave with it in their pocket!

My primary teachers include Nubia Teixeira, Toni Cupal, Jennifer Lane, and Leah Adams. I am influenced by the work of Sally Kempton, Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés Reyes, Sophie Strand, Paul Grilley, and Andrew Huberman.

When I’m not teaching, I am an enthusiastic maker of japa malas, yantras, and pottery. Outside of the studios, I enjoy birdwatching and kayaking with my husband and chihuahua.
